About Us
With a proven history of over 30 years in the legal industry, Mahlab Costing Pty Ltd provides specialized costing services to the legal profession.
Mahlab Costing traces its origins to Mahlab & Associates at which Judith Hedstrom, previously a partner in a legal firm, had commenced practice as a costs lawyer. By 1986 Judith headed the costing division at Mahlabs (by then Mahlab Group Pty Ltd). In 1988, Mahlab Costing Pty Ltd was established as the independent successor to the costing division under her directorship.
With Judith’s retirement at the end of 2012, Mahlab Costing began its new chapter under the directorship of two of Judith’s colleagues, Penny Van den Berg and Cheryl Chua.
Mahlab Costing continues to operate as an independent legal costing firm offering the full breadth of quality legal costing services by qualified solicitors. It is committed to working with its clients in the provision of professional and commercially cost effective services.

Following graduation from Melbourne University, Cheryl has practised exclusively in Costs Law since 2004. She joined Mahlab Costing in 2008 and has been a Director since 2013.
Cheryl is knowledgeable and experienced in both commercial and personal injury matters and brings a breadth of knowledge to all matters she undertakes. She has been on the panel of costs lawyers assisting the Transport Accident Commission since 2010. With particular focus on dispute resolution, she is committed to achieving balanced and commercially practical outcome for all her clients.
